The Story Behind 1/1 Bakery: Why We Started in a Family Garden Kitchen

Not every bakery starts in a factory. Ours started in a family home.

1/1 Bakery was founded in 2026 in a private kitchen tucked away in a quiet home in Metro Manila. There was no grand plan for a business — just a genuine obsession with getting the pineapple cake right.

The Problem We Kept Running Into

If you've tried to find a really good Taiwanese pineapple cake in the Philippines, you've probably noticed the same thing we did: the options are either expensive imported boxes from Taiwan (by the time they reach you, they've lost their freshness), or mass-produced versions filled with ingredients you can't pronounce.

We wanted something different. We wanted the pineapple cake that Taiwanese home bakers make — the kind that uses real butter, cooks the pineapple jam slowly until it's perfectly tangy and fibrous, and comes to you genuinely fresh.

So we made it ourselves.

Why Small Batches?

When you bake in small batches, you can't hide behind volume. Every piece gets your attention. Every sheet that comes out of the oven gets checked. You can't mask mistakes with preservatives or mass-production tricks.

Operating as a micro-bakery means we are limited in how much we produce each day — and that's intentional. We would rather bake fewer cakes that are genuinely excellent than scale up and sacrifice the quality that made us worth starting in the first place.

What 1/1 Means to Us

The name was chosen carefully. 1/1 in mathematics equals 1 — whole, undivided, complete. For us, it represents our commitment to 100% real ingredients, 100% transparency about what's in our products, and 100% of our heart going into every batch.

It's also a reminder to ourselves: don't dilute. Don't shortcut. Don't compromise.

What's Next

We're still a young bakery, but we're growing — and we're doing it carefully. We deliver across Metro Manila and nationwide in the Philippines, and we're constantly working on new treats that meet our 1/1 standard.
